About MakeTheDonation
MakeTheDonation connects local businesses to the nonprofits their communities believe in. Customers round up their change or add a dollar at checkout, businesses deliver the money directly, and everybody can see it working.
Where we started
We are built in New Orleans, a city where the coffee shop, the corner store, and the mission down the street hold the neighborhood together. Watching local organizations fight for every dollar while thousands of card taps happened around them every day made the idea obvious: the register is the most natural fundraising spot a community has. It just needed the plumbing.
How we think about it
The money is not ours to touch. Donations travel directly from a business to its nonprofit. We count, we reconcile, we stay out of the way.
Nonprofits never pay. No fee, no percentage. The businesses that use the platform carry it.
It should work with what you already own. No new hardware and no switching providers: we meet businesses on the point of sale they already have, and we keep adding more.
Giving should be visible. Signage on the counter, a line on the receipt, a public page with a thermometer filling up. Communities give more when they can see it working.
